Job Description
The Shop Service Technician is responsible for completing repair and preventative maintenance on various types of cattle feeder equipment. This role specializes in scale troubleshooting/repair and feed truck hydraulic systems troubleshooting/repair. Additional duties include rebuilding feed wagons, addressing spreader issues, performing oil changes, diagnosing, welding, and repairing all types of farm equipment.
Responsibilities & Duties
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Diagnose and repair various farm equipment, including engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems.
- Collaborate with the manager and other shop technicians to ensure repairs are completed efficiently and
on time. - Maintain and organize tools, service trucks, and customer logs, ensuring all information is accurately
entered into the computer system. - Use diagnostic tools to assess equipment functionality and interpret schematics.
- Prepare detailed repair reports and communicate repair information clearly to customers.
- Participate in an on-call rotation for nights and weekends with other shop technicians, but this duty is
usually required no more than once a month. - Pursue learning opportunities to stay current with job knowledge and technical skills.
- Keep meticulous records of repair work and hours, updating the Blackpurl computer system accordingly.
- Load and unload new and used equipment upon arrival.
- Set up new equipment after delivery and unloading.
- Operate welding and fabricating machines to repair and cattle feeder farm equipment effectively.
Qualifications
- Mechanically skilled, customer-focused, and an independent problem-solver who enjoys a fast-paced
environment. - Ability to use computer programs as needed to complete work.
- Eagerness to continuously learn and keep current with training and certifications.
- Valid driver’s license (CDL preferred but not required).
- 2+ years of related experience OR an associate degree in a related program (preferred but not required).
Preferred Skills
- Welding, hydraulic experience, plasma cutting, torching, troubleshooting.
- Operating forklifts, payloaders, tractors, and service trucks.
- Efficient work habits, safety-conscious thinking, and attention to detail.
